It's a Dangerous World Out There!
Maybe I’m a little strange, but I really like grocery shopping.
I like everything about it:
Planning our dinner menu for a couple of weeks.
Going through my kitchen, seeing what I need.
Making my list.
Checking it twice.
I made a computer list of our usuals. It goes along my route throughout Meijer! I keep it on a clip board, which rests nicely in my cart. It makes shopping so much easier. I've updated it and used it for years.
Clipping digital coupons
Perusing the aisles in the store
Shop ‘n Scan at Meijer so I don’t have to wait in line.
Using my rewards and watching my total dimmish.
Putting everything away when I get home.
Yep, I pretty much love it all.
But I don’t start at Meijer. First, I go to ALDI. I LOVE ALDI! Seriously, their prices are amazing, and I don’t feel like I’m getting inferior items or produce.
Speaking of produce, are you aware of Apeel, the product that is sprayed on fresh produce to make it stay fresh longer? This is NOT a good thing. Look for the Apeel sticker and if unsure, ask your grocer if they buy produce with Apeel on it. So what’s the big deal?
99.34 % of the things on the Apeel label are listed as “other ingredients.” Gee, that’s almost 100%, I’d sure like to know what they are!
Apeel also contains heavy metals, including palladium, cadmium, lead, mercury, and arsenic!
Hmm, aren’t we supposed to avoid lead and not eat arsenic?
Another good question: what is it used for? The EPA sys Apeel is a fungicide used after harvest, but Apeel advertises it as a protective coating. I don’t think this is a good idea. And I don’t like getting conflicting messages.
That makes my radar go haywire.
Ironically, there is an organic form of this fungicide, too.
But the real kicker is, you can’t wash it off your produce.
Think twice on this one…and always know what you’re putting in your body.
Here’s another healthy shopping tip. Us the YUKA app. You can scan anything with a barcode (some things don’t show up on the app, but by and large, most do). The app rates the how “healthy” the ingredients are. This is simply a tool. It is not the be all/end all for evaluating your purchases, but it can help guide you as you move through the aisles.
But back to Aldi, there’s another danger at our store…the geese!
I really didn’t give them much attention until I read that someone in my town was attacked by them (and I have to make an effort not to step in their poop). The last time I was there quite a few of them were in the parking lot. I spent a decent amount of time parking my car so I could get out of the parking lot and also dodging them when I was walking into the store. Apparently, if you get too close to a nest they come after you.
But the whole time I’m looking for a good parking spot, I’m also thinking…I’m going to come out of here and think someone stole my car, because I always park in the same spot! Thankfully I shopped, found my car and got home unscathed! Whew!
Be safe, my friend….it’s dangerous out there.
Both inside and outside of the grocery store!
Be kind to you, dear reader!
