What do you want?
When our son was about 9 years old, he got his hands on our video recorder.
Oh my gosh! Remember those days, those camcorders?? Well, we have the sweetest video of him recording himself. It goes like this: He spends quite a bit of time positioning the camera in his room. He turns it on, leaves the room and comes back in. Over and over-going out, coming back in, looking at the video to make sure it was set up just right. Time after time after time he does this. Going out, coming in. It seems his whole purpose was to eventually “catch” someone going into his room.
To be clear, no one in our family was interested in going into his room. Not me. Not his dad and neither of his 2 sisters- one 6 years older than him and one 4 years younger than him. I can’t say for sure, but very likely I wouldn’t have been able to talk him out of this process. He had a plan. He was determined!
Which got me thinking, how determined am I? How determined are you? What are you trying to accomplish? Are you steadfast or are you easily talked out of your plan?
Does it matter to you if you’re fasting and everyone else is eating? Are you likely to “cheat?” And let’s be honest, who are you cheating? Mmmhmm.
Maybe you’re feeling “iffy” about fasting or a new way of eating (like Carnivore or Keto, Vegetarian or Vegan)). What do you really want? Weight loss? Long term health? Age with grace and stamina? All of the above?
Would you do better with someone alongside you? How about putting a couple of friends together and meet with me for a few months? You don’t all need to be pursuing the same thing in the same way. Think about it. I (we) can help you. Accountability is the very thing you need. Determination can be contagious. Not local? We can do this on Zoom. Email me, put Group Coaching in the subject. Plus, group coaching is a money saver for you!
On another note, I have been determined to read more this summer. I’m currently in book 2 of The Little House on the Prairie series. I read these to my oldest daughter when she was little. She’s now 38, so it’s been a while. I know, it sounds rather 5th grade of me, but I’m loving them! I try to read before bed each night so that I go to sleep with really cool people in my mind: Pa, Ma, Mary, Laura, baby Carrie and Mr. Edwards. Oh, and Jack, the dog. Nothing scary or tawdry. (Dang, I love that word! -tawdry.) Just a little family making their way in a new world, figuring things out, loving one another, making new friends. Good stuff.
I’m also determined to age well, which is why I’m 8 months into Carnivore, doing a lot more jumping for my bones, keeping up with resistance training and walking every day. I’m using an app to track my walking (Pedometer). I really pushed myself today. I never look at my steps while I’m walking, I like to be surprised when I get home. Today in just my morning walk, I had 10,138 steps in. Super surprised.
Another new push for me is to try to use heavier weights in my workouts.
It’s definitely a mind over matter thing.
But I’m determined.
Update on my son, who is now 32 years old. As a business owner, he remains determined. I’m sure you won’t be surprised to hear he is the founder/owner of a video editing company, VAAS/ Video Editing on Demand. I tend to believe it all started when he was nine.
So again, what’s your plan. How determined are you?
