Life Lessons From A Card Playing Golfer

My husband is a golfer. Wait, I didn’t say that right. Let me try again.

My husband is a GOLFER.

Last year he played 80+ rounds. Not impressed? Well, we live in the middle of the country, so he essentially only golfs in the summer. And of course, he typically doesn’t golf when it’s pouring down rain. Impressed now? No? That’s ok, in all honesty, it sounds HORRIBLE to me!

Even though I’m not a golfer, I am not blind to the fact that this is a HUGE time investment.

Now THAT impresses me.

Generally, if you’re willing to put the time into something, to become better and better at it, that investment pays off.

If we take my husband as an example and apply it to our pursuit of health and/or weight loss, we have a great model:

  1. He’s committed, as we have already established.

    • You and I must make a commitment to ourselves to do what it takes in order to become who we want to be. Be honest here. What do you really want? What are you willing to do to get it?

  2. In order to be a good golfer, he can’t be a “fair weather golfer.” That means he golfs in less-than-ideal weather conditions/circumstances (excluding lightening).

    • You and I must recognize that the pursuit of health won’t always be convenient and sometimes it will feel like a nuisance. Even so, we stick with it.

  3. He puts in the time…lots of time.

    • Being healthy/losing weight will require focused time and attention. But it’s totally worth it! Right? Unlike 18 holes of golf, when you refine your Intermittent Fasting, you have more time for other things in your life. The emphasis is OFF of food!

  4. He plans ahead. He must make a tee time. He can’t just show up and play.

    • Deciding when you will eat and what you will eat requires your attention up front. The longer you stick with your plan and adjust as needed, the easier it becomes. This might look like putting things on your calendar. When I do a long fast, I put it on my whiteboard. It holds me accountable.

  5. The men he golfs with sharpen him. I can see that my husband is genuinely happy for the guy who golfs his best round to date. Not to mention when someone gets a hole in one!

  • Here’s where a great Coach comes in: someone to create a plan with, tweak the plan with and celebrate with. That’s ME! But there are only so many hours in my day. So, reach out if you would like to be a part of a *Small Group Coaching Experience. This is a 6-session experience (2x/month for 3 months) with me. Plus, you have the benefit of working towards your goals in community with other women. What is it you really want?

  • To fit in your jeans?

  • Lower your blood sugar?

  • See that number on the scale go down?

  • Ditch diet culture? (Because diets don't work)

  • Chase/keep up with your grandkids?

  • This group will encourage you, support you, motivate you and may even foster friendships that will last the rest of your life. Win-Win-Win! (Plus, it’s less expensive than individual coaching!).

*Small Group Coaching is available mornings and evenings. Take your pick!

Before I go let me tell you about MY golf game. I have discovered a very different form of golf this summer; a card game called, Play Nine. My Bestie, Stacy, and I have been spent many a summer evening on my porch "golfing." She insists she has a handicap because her hands hurt from shuffling the cards. I may not know much about golf, but I assured her that "a handicap" has nothing to do with being injured!

And thank you to my sister, Kate for introducing me to the game AND my sister, Margie, for hosting us over a long weekend of "golf."

So what will it be?  Individual Coaching, the Group Coaching Experience or the next Intermittent Fasting Workshop….As always, reach out for a free 20 minute chat, to see what's best for you.

Can you hear me yelling "FORE"? Heads up my friend....life is coming at you fast. Now is the time to do something about your weight/health. You don't want to get "hit" with a chronic diagnosis or aggravate one you already have.

Let's get you on my schedule!

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

Take good care,
Renee
