Golden Girls

One show I have never watched is The Bachelor. My daughter and daughter- in- love like to get together to watch throughout the season. Personally, I think it looks sleazy. My age is probably showing.

But when The Golden Bachelor came out I thought, 'Hmmm, that may be interesting.'
Wow, this show can suck you in!

At first I didn't want to tell my husband that I was watching it.
It felt like a betrayal. We've been happily married for 38 years.
I wasn't watching to check out the Bachelor.
I was totally watching to see what these women looked like.

As each one got out of the limo, I did the classic "woman move."
I compared myself to them.
Ok, Ok....there may have been some judging involved:

"Yikes, she's got a truckload of make up on."
"Definitely some plastic surgery there...."
"Oooh, honey...cover that up."
"Dang, she looks good for her age."
"Do my arms look like that?"
"I hope I look like her in 10 years!"
"You should have picked a different dress, darling."

I stuck with it through the whole season. I even watched the wedding.
In the end, I'm proud of every single one of those women.
And I hope all the "non winners" find true happiness and love.

But....(of course you knew there would be a but....)
Girl, you gotta be happy with yourself. Alone.
I know and you know, I help middle aged women lose weight- but there's SO.MUCH.MORE.
The truth is that even if there's less of you...there you are.

Typically, there are a few reasons why you gained the weight in the first place.
Stress- empty house, empty marriage, yucky job.
Menopause- crazy hormones, poor sleep, zero energy.
Crappy diet- eat too much, eat too often, eat crappy food.

I've said this a MILLION times: I'm not a therapist and I'm not a counselor.
But I have 2 ears and broad shoulders.
Together, we figure things out.

Sometimes there's tremendous value in just hearing yourself say something out loud to someone who is listening.

So yes, I do want to age well and look good when I'm 70.
(I once ran a program called, "Grandmas Can Be Sexy, Too")
I want to be vibrant and active.
But I also want contentment, joy and peace.

Does any of this sound good to you?
We don't need a lift, a tuck, a suction...we just need to be all in.
Are you?
Let's do this together.

Talk soon,

Renee
