Spring Is In The Air

Hold on! Spring is around the corner. Most people in most parts of the country (and parts of the world), welcome the thought of Spring being close at hand.

Yes, March is much anticipated.

March is birthday month for me. I’ll be Social Security eligible. Hmmm, the previous milestones were a lot more fun:

16- driver’s license
18- vote
21- buy a drink
BUT 62 does have a fun discount attached to it-most hotels offer a discount at 62. Niiiice!

Indeed, March for me, could potentially be a good thing this year. March could be good for all of you too, even if your birthday is in January. Say WHAT?

Yes. March as in MARCHING!

I’ve said for years that walking all year long is so good for you. However, many people don’t like getting out in extreme temperatures.

Sure, you can walk on a treadmill.

Personally, I get bored doing that. Plus, we donated our treadmill to a boxing gym here in town. And besides, it’s a big expense. Maybe you can’t afford a treadmill.

Then there’s always a rebounder (small trampoline). This also is a great form of exercise. Just 10 minutes of jumping is equal to a 30–40-minute run. You can get one from Amazon for about $130.

Golly Renee, don’t you have a freebee?
Why yes, I do!
Marching!
As it turns out, marching in place is very good for us.
Look at some of these benefits:
Heart health
Toned legs
Toned core
Better balance
Stress relief
Increased circulation
And even better, brain health!

Keep in mind there is a proper way to do this:
Engage your core by bracing your abdominal muscles.
Maintain a proper posture – chest lifted; shoulders relaxed.
Lift your knees up towards your hips.
Pump your arms.
You can add to the effects of this “do it wherever you are” form of exercise by pumping small weights or wearing a weighted vest!

Looks like you’re without excuse in terms of exercise.
So as my mom would say “Get marching!” I heard that many times growing up.
It translates, “Quit dilly dallying.”
Or in full vernacular, “Hurry up!”
But this isn’t some sort of admonition.  I want you to literally MARCH.
I mean, c’mon. You don’t even need to go outside!

Happy Spring!
Renee
